Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Atmos ("Atmos", "we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Atmos website (atmos.guide) and iOS app.

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, improve performance, and provide information to the website owner. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which we also use. In this policy, "cookies" refers to all of these technologies unless otherwise specified.

2. How Atmos Uses Cookies

The Atmos website uses a minimal set of cookies and browser storage. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. We believe in collecting only what is necessary to provide and improve the Service.

Essential Cookies (No Consent Required)

These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function. They enable you to sign in, stay signed in, and use authenticated features. Without these cookies, the Service cannot operate. These cookies do not require your consent under the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act (Ekomloven) or GDPR, as they are strictly necessary for the service you have requested.

Legal basis: Performance of contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) — these cookies are required to deliver the service you have requested.

Analytics Cookies (Consent Required)

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how visitors use the website. Vercel Web Analytics collects anonymized, aggregated data such as page views and load times. According to Vercel, this service does not track individual users, does not use fingerprinting, does not set persistent identifiers, and does not collect personally identifiable information.

However, in accordance with the updated Norwegian Electronic Communications Act (Ekomloven, effective 1 January 2025) and Datatilsynet's guidance, we treat analytics cookies as non-essential and request your consent before activating them. You may accept or decline analytics cookies when you first visit the website, and you may change your preference at any time.

Legal basis: Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — we only activate analytics after you have given your affirmative consent.

3. What We Do NOT Use

We want to be transparent about what we deliberately choose not to do:

  • No advertising or retargeting cookies — we do not serve ads and do not track you for advertising purposes
  • No third-party tracking cookies — no Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or similar tools
  • No cross-site tracking — we do not follow your activity across other websites
  • No fingerprinting technologies — we do not use canvas fingerprinting, audio fingerprinting, or any other technique to identify your device
  • No data sales — we do not sell, rent, or trade any data collected through cookies or similar technologies

4. iOS App

The Atmos iOS app does not use browser cookies. Authentication tokens and preferences are stored in iOS device storage (Keychain and UserDefaults), not in cookies. A device push token is stored on our servers (Supabase, EU) solely to deliver weather and air quality notifications, and is deleted when you sign out. The iOS app does not contain third-party analytics SDKs or advertising frameworks.

5. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Our website is hosted by Vercel. When analytics cookies are active, anonymized analytics data may be processed by Vercel's infrastructure, which may include servers located outside the EEA. Vercel processes this data under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission, and in accordance with their Data Processing Agreement. For more information, see Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Authentication data processed via Supabase is stored in the EU region. For details on our data processing arrangements, see our Privacy Policy.

6. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can control cookies in several ways:

  • Cookie consent banner — When you first visit atmos.guide, you will be asked to accept or decline non-essential (analytics) cookies. You can change your preference at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the website footer.
  • Browser settings — Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies via their privacy settings. For instructions, consult your browser's help documentation.
  • Sign out — Signing out of Atmos clears your authentication tokens.
  • Clear site data — You can clear all locally stored data for atmos.guide via your browser's privacy settings or developer tools.

Please note: Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in to Atmos and using authenticated features.

Withdrawing your consent for analytics cookies is as simple as giving it — use the cookie settings link in the footer at any time. Analytics data collection will stop immediately upon withdrawal.

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR and the Norwegian Personal Data Act, you have the right to:

  • Access information about what data is processed via cookies
  • Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal
  • Request deletion of any personal data we hold about you
  • Lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) at datatilsynet.no

For any requests related to your data, contact us at breathe@atmos.guide.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect how we use cookies or process your data, we will notify you via email or in-app notification and, where required, request your renewed consent.
